- A Lagos pastor has been arrested and charged with the theft of a car reportedly worth N1.2m
- According to reports, the 46-year-old pastor ran away with the car brought to him by a church member for prayers
- The accused however, pleaded 'not guilty' to the allegations after he was charged to court
Identified as Joseph Lawson, the 46-year-old pastor was recently arrested after he fled with a church member's car in Lagos. He appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, charged with the car theft.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, the accuse, committed the offence on October 1 at Oko-Oba, Lagos. He revealed that Lawson absconded with a car belonging to a church member identified as Chikwukadibia Udeh.
The prosecutor said:“The complainant approached the accused for prayers, the accused told him that God told him that he should bring his car and the document for prayers.The complainant obeyed and after the accused collected the car and its document, he was no where to be found. Efforts made by the complainant to recover his car proved unsuccessful and the case was reported to the police,’’

The prosecutor went on to reveal that by the time the said pastor was arrested, he had already sold the car. The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Section carries three years jail term for stealing. Lawson who resides at Surulere pleaded `not-guilty’ plea to the charge leveled against him.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adegun granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200k with two sureties as part of the bail condition. The case was adjourned until October 29, for hearing.
