In what is a heartwarming lesson on embracing racial diversity, an American white missionary couple gave birth to African-American triplets in April last year.

Aaron and Rachel Halbert have shared their amazing story of adopting three African-American embryos and Rachel carrying the pregnancy naturally.

The two are evangelical missionaries working in Honduras and turned to adoption after having difficulties conceiving naturally.

Writing in the Washington Post, they say they are pro-life and do not favor abortion, adding that they made a decision to adopt non-white babies only.

This is because of their conviction that had God wanted them to have white babies, they wouldn't have had problems conceiving naturally. Furthermore, they felt non-white children are often overlooked in adoption processes.

Aaron and Rachel also see adoption as a way of protecting children as well as part of God's work. They write: "We see protection of children not as charity, nor as part of a political agenda, but as something near to the heart of God."

Before adopting the three embryos, they had already adopted an African-American son and a biracial daughter and were therefore looking to expand their family.

With their newly born triplets and two children adopted earlier, the two parents are enjoying raising their multi-ethnic family.

They write: "The beauty of a multi-ethnic family is found there, in the fact that the differences are the very thing that make ours richer and fuller. It forces you to think in a new way about the way you think, speak, act and live."
