- The policemen acted following a complaint on the arrest of the victim, and the demand for an N80m ransom by the kidnappers
- The suspects were arrested in a three-bedroom house, and subsequently confessed to having carried out several kidnappings within Aba and other parts of Abia state
Six kidnap suspects have been arrested by police officers in Abia state, and a 76-year-old victim rescued, NAN reports.
The development was made public by the commander of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari, on Monday, December 18.

NAIJ.com gathers that Kyari disclosed that IRT operatives had swung into action following a report about the kidnapping of the victim, Benjamin Okoye, in Aba, Abia state, on Friday, December 15, and the subsequent demand of N80 million by his abductors.
Kyari stated: “Eventually, two suspected kidnappers were arrested in Aba town, who took combined teams of IRT Operatives and CPS Aba Police personnel to the kidnappers’ camp at Okpukwu Umuobo Area of Aba.
“They were arrested at a 3-bedroom house rented and used for keeping victims. The ailing victim, Mr Benjamin Okoye, a hypertension patient, kept without his drugs, was rescued alive.
“Four more kidnappers were arrested with bullet wounds inside the house as they attempted to escape.
“The two AK-47 Rifles used for their operations were recovered in a special compartment they constructed under their operational golf car with six magazines loaded with 180 rounds of live ammunition.”
Kyari further disclosed that all the suspects had confessed to several kidnappings within Aba and other parts of Abia state.
He further revealed that 4 of the 6 arrested suspects had confessed to forming their gang after coming out of prison in October.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that operatives of IGP’s Intelligence Response Team arrested five suspected kidnappers terrorising Aba, in Abia state.
The suspects were identified as 29-year-old Samuel Chikaodi James AKA Chiboy, 23-year-old Justice Iriah AKA Mopol, 22-year-old Ikechukwu Igwebuike, 30-year-old, Chikachi Ubani and 45-year-old Chineye Mark.
The exhibits recovered included an AK47 rifle, magazine/ammunitions, the operational vehicle, one Lexus 300 jeep, and a Toyota Sienna bus.
