Retired General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, Nigeria’s current interior minister, is to head a 19-man security committee that would take charge as former Kano governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, is set to visit his home-state, Daily Trust has reported.
Kwankwaso, who has been in a running political battle with his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is believed to have his eyes on the presidency in 2019 and would be making the historic visit home on January 30.
The report said that members of the committee had been holding series of meetings in the state ahead of the visit.

Daily Trust reports that the committee also has Dr Danyaro Ali Yakasai and Barrister Munir Dahiru as vice chairman and secretary respectively.
The report listed other members of the committee to include retired Colonel Usman Garun-Malam, retired Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u, retired Major General Ahmad Tijjani Jibril, retired Air Commodore Ali Bebeji, retired Air Commodore Zakari Baffa and retired AIG Bala Abdullahi.
Some of the other members are retired CP Rabi’u Mani, retired Commander Kamilu Wudil, retired Commander Sarki Aliyu Daneji, Alhaji M.T Usman, Hon. Lawal Sale Gaya, Alhaji Baba Umar, Alhaji Tijjani Dambazau, Alhaji Sanusi Surajo Kwankwaso, Alhaji Adamu Garko and Alhaji Muhammad Ado Danbatta.
The reportquoted a member of the committee, Alhaji Sanusi Surajo Kwankwaso, as saying they were determined to ensure a peaceful event.

“We are committed to the responsibility we are charged to discharge and we will not disappoint our people. So far everything is going as scheduled and God willing, we will hold a peaceful event,” he said.
However, this claim could not be independently verified at the time of this report.
