NAIJ.com gathers that the lawmaker stated that the Buhari aministration inherited the nation’s current security challenges, but expressed dismay that calls for resignation were not made during previous administrations.
He stated: “I did not hear of such a demand made on former presidents Goodluck Jonathan or Olusegun Obasanjo over Boko Haram and the activities of Niger Delta militants. Buhari inherited these security challenges.”
He further chastised Benue leaders for speaking disrespectfully to the president, as a result of the recent herdsmen killings in the state.
In his words: “Benue leaders are speaking out of anger, but may I remind that it is not in our culture to disrespect those in authority.
“Some of these people feel encouraged by the blame-game heaped on President Buhari to vow that they would not vote for him in 2019 and that if he cannot protect them, they would form an army to protect themselves.
“I fear that in their anger, some of my brother’s in Benue State seem to blame President Buhari for the activities of the Fulani herdsmen.”
He took fault with the premise that the president was not taking effective action on the herdsmen issue because he is also a Fulani man, and stated that this is a 'tendentious and dangerous thesis.'
He urged Nigerians to help control the situation by having a sense of proportion in their responses and pronouncements; especially if they had nothing positive to say.
