The Kaduna state government has commenced the screening exercise for more than 22,000 fresh teachers in view of their deployment to public primary schools throughout the state.
This move by the state government was done to resolve the controversy that arose from the sacking of over 21,000 unqualified teachers who failed a competency test in 2017.

According to Channel Television's reports, the screening exercise is underway taking place simultaneously in the three senatorial zones across the state.
Having approved the result of the teachers' competency test, the Kaduna state executive council had directed immediate recruitment of new ones.
According to the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), this is part of the state government’s effort to equip all schools with competent and qualified teachers so as to provide quality education and learning to pupils in the state.

It is reported that the applicants are satisfied with the process and will hopefully pass make it to the classrooms.
Earlier, NAIJ.com reported that Nasir El-Rufai, the Kaduna state governor, said about 21,780 out of 33,000 teachers failed the primary four test administered to test their competence by the state government. Governor el-Rufai made this known on Monday, October 9, while receiving a World Bank’s delegation in the state.
He said: ''We tested our 33,000 primary school teachers, we gave them primary four examination and required they must get at least 75 per cent but I am sad to announce that 66 per cent of them failed to get the requirements."
