Speaking after his release, Segun, who was in tears, stated that his ordeal began from his Sagamu paternal home where he was charmed.
He stated that the charm which was cast on him, made him constantly run away from home.
He disclosed that he felt his troubles would finally cease when his mother brought him to Obada; but that the situation only continued.
According to Segun, he had gotten accustomed to hunger and deprivation, and had to put a halt to his education at Primary three.
The police commissioner described Segun’s predicament and treatment at the hands of his relatives as inhuman, heinous, and capable of leading to 'ritual killing or child disappearance.'
Illiyasu disclosed that men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) who were patrolling flash points were the ones who had uncovered the crime.
According to Illiyasu, until his rescue, Segun had been “starved, urinated and defecated at the spot where he was chained.”
Segun’s mother stated that she did not know that it was a crime to chain her son, as his grandmother also told newsmen that the boy was stubborn and was chained so he would not flee.
