- Senator Abaribe said the president should be impeached if he fails to act
- He was however cautioned by Senator Lawan
- Senate president Bukola Saraki also asked him to withdraw his statement
Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan cautioned Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe over his comment about impeaching the president if he fails to act.
Daily trust reports that Abaribe was seconding a bill titled “An Act to Prescribe Punishment for Acts and Conducts that are Undemocratic by Elected Officials” when he said if the president refuses to act, he will be punished.

Abaribe said: “When you choose in an election, you must be able to accept the consequence of that choice you have made. Nigerians chose APC, they must live with the consequence of that.
“Nobody can wake up now and tell us, like my friend wants to tell us, that some people are undemocratic…I think the problem of Ibn Na’Allah, our very good friend, is that the executive today refuse to act when they need to act for consequences of what the people do.
“The penalty is there in the constitution. If a president refuses to act, then impeach him; there is no other thing you need to do.”
Lawan however cautioned Abaribe saying he has gone off the mark with his statement.
He said: “I believe he should withdraw it (statement) and continue to remain on track.”
Senate president Bukola Saraki asked Abaribe to withdraw his statement.
Abaribe responded: “Let me withdraw that of the president and say any governor that leaves his responsibility should be impeached.”
Meanwhile, A report by Vanguard newspaper indicates that a grand plot to remove Saraki is in motion.
According to the report, the plot is being allegedly championed by a former governor and a serving senator even as meetings are said to have been held to actualise the plan.
The plot was said to have been weaved around the former governor and other key players, especially on the roles they are expected to play.
