Ahead of the 2019 general elections, 30 political parties, which came together in July 2017 to launch Coalition for a New Nigeria, have said they are currently meeting to strategise and come up with better ways to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari.
One of such moves by the coalition is to present a sole presidential candidate for the election, according to its spokesperson and national chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Dr Yunusa Tanko.
The Punch reports that CTanko stated that the parties would soon brief the nation on their stand on the 2019 polls and the state of the nation.

Tanko said on Thursday, January 25 in Abuja, that a grand alliance of political parties had become important because of the political situation of the Nigerian which now needs urgent intervention from his group.
“The coalition has become necessary due to the dynamic situation of our politics which needs urgent intervention to save the country from anarchy and give direction to our survival towards the 2019 general election.
“We are concerned about the state of the nation. We are going to bring all the 30 political parties together on January 30 to show you how ready and prepared we are; We are working together to support a candidate within the coalition,” Tanko said while asking Nigerians to support its plan to build the nation.
“This is why the CNN made up of 30 registered political parties and expecting to rapidly grow have come together to salvage the situation before things get out of hand,” Tanko said.

The report said some of the organisations involved in the coalition include the Labour Party, Alliance for Democracy; Democratic Peoples Congress, Action Alliance; Progressives Peoples Alliance; Young Democratic Party; Democratic Alternative and National Conscience Party.
The others are Peoples Party of Nigeria; Mega Progressive Peoples Party; Better Nigeria Peoples Party; African Democratic Congress; People for Democratic Change; United Democratic Party and National Action Congress, among others.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that ahead of 2019 election, former president Olusegun Obasanjo is reportedly gathering an army of politicians to form a coalition and oust President Muhammadu Buhari as well as revamp politics and economy in Nigeria.
The coalition so far has the support of seven governors and twenty senators as well as other notable politicians.
