Oby Ezekwesili, the convener of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign and former minister of education on Monday, October 1, says the life of an average Nigerian has been cheapened.
Ezekwesili said this during Channels Television’s special programme on Nigeria’s 58th Independence anniversary.
She said: “Today, the life of an Average Nigerian has been cheapened to the point where when you look at people having a conversation, they are really asking, ‘how much is the Nigerian life worth?”

Ezekwesili criticised the current administration for not doing enough to protect the lives of the citizens.
She also decried a situation whereby people regard the loss of human lives in media reports of violence in some parts of the country as ‘just”.
“If you say 14 people were killed, they will say ‘only.’ How can we build a society like this? There is something broken in that,” she said.
As the country continues to face security challenges, Ezekwesili called for focus intelligence gathering.
She believes that an ‘operational review’ of the nation’s security apparatus is critical to stopping attacks by terrorists, herdsmen-farmers clashes, among others.
In doing this, she wants the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to determine how important Nigerian lives are by his commitment in fighting insecurity.

While speaking at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, on Monday, October 1, the fiery preacher said the former vice president of the World Bank would seek the highest political office in the land.
Barake said that Nigeria has been structurally skewed to run a system that perpetuates bad leadership.
