The Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has promised to work with the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) towards ensuring that the party emerges victorious in the 2019 presidential election.
Tambuwal made the promise on Monday, October 15, when the peace and reconciliation committee of the PDP paid him a visit in his Abuja residence, The Punch reports.
The governor who lost out to Atiku Abubakar during the PDP presidential primary, said he is not angry about his loss and pledged his commitment to fully support the party’s presidential candidate.
“I want to reassure you, our party men and women and Nigerians that I am committed to the success and victory of our party at the general elections, come February 2019," Tambuwal said.
“We have had a robust and fruitful engagement on the way forward and I have made my commitment immediately after the convention that I am going to support our candidate, Wazirin Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar, 100% for us to have victory at the general elections. So, I am not wavering, I am not looking back.
“Work has started for us to ensure that the PDP family remains united and other lovers of democracy come and partner with us for us to ensure that we convincingly win the election."
He urged Nigerians to work with the PDP to wrestle power from the ruling party which he accused of maladministration.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate for the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is its own greatest opposition.
Atiku also said that one of APC's greatest challenge is the health condition of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former vice president who was quoted in an interview published in a new book by Isa Odidi: ‘Atiku Abubakar: The Best Choice for President of Nigeria in 2019’ said the APC led administration have failed to manage its electoral successes.
