The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has warned that the executive order which was recently signed by President Buhari imposing a travel ban on 50 Nigerians could have dire consequences for the economy.
The Punch reports that Atiku, in a statement on Sunday, October 14, by his media office in Abuja, said the travel ban was another form of intimidation ahead of the 2019 elections.

The candidate said though he is against any act of criminality, either financially or otherwise, he however noted that any measure against corruption must be in accordance with the rule of law.
This Day reports that the PDP presidential candidate recalled that while Buhari delivered an address at the annual general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association on August 26, 2018, he had advocated that individual rights must take second place in favour of the greater good of society where national security and public interest are threatened.

Meanwhile, the presidency has justified an executive order by Muhammadu Buhari which reportedly placed 50 Nigerians accused of corruption on a travel ban.
The Nation reports that the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement on Sunday, October 14, said that the order was legal and constitutional.

The newspaper states that the proposed sale of the company was disclosed by governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, when briefing the Nigerian delegation at the end of the International Monetary Fund/World Bank Group meetings in Bali, Indonesia, on Sunday, October 14.
