Taiwo 'Esepo' Agbaje picked up a cash prize of N1.5 million alongside the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial trophy after emerging the best boxer at the 16th edition of the GOtv Boxing Night.
Making a return to Lagos state after last edition was held in Ibadan, boxing fans and lovers trooped to the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere on Sunday, October 14, to witness the best of boxing.
The fans were certainly thrilled as Waheed ‘Showmax’ Shogbamu, fighting in the National Light Welterweight Challenge category, needed just 1 minute, 40 seconds to knockout Azeez ‘Who Say So’ Tijani in the first of the nine bouts on the night.
In the next bout which was also a National Light Welterweight Challenge, Adeyemi ‘Spirit’ Adekanla, making his debut, defeated Ganiyu Kolawole by split decision from the judges.
In the National Super Flyweight Challenge, debutant Aminu ‘Lucky Boy’ Akintayo defeated another debutant Mutiu ‘Machine’ Fatai by unanimous decision.

It was then the turn of Opeyemi ‘Sense’ Adeyemi who was pitched against an older opponent Sheriff ‘Oshe’ Ogunbanjo. Before the fight, Adeyemi had vowed to knock out his opponent in the second round but the hard fighting young lad needed unanimous decision from the judges to beat his opponent Ogunbajo.
Of the 18 boxers on the night, Taiwo 'Esepo' Agbaje showed great boxing skills as he faced off a strong opponent in Tope ‘TP Rock’ Musa. But after six rounds, Agbaje claimed victory by unanimous decision and was rewarded with N1.5 million for his efforts.
One of fan's favourites, Waidi Skoro Usman knocked out Chibuzo T Boy Obi after two rounds in the sixth bout, to retain his National Featherweight belt.
The next bout between Kabiru ‘KB Godson’ Towolawi and Adewale ‘Masevex’ Masebinu had a perfect blend of comedy and action as both boxers started well but began to show high level of fatigue in the fifth round.
Kabiru ‘KB Godson’ Towolawi could no longer continue the bout after six rounds, despite having a lot of supporters in the stadium, hence handing the National Light Heavyweight belt to Adewale ‘Masevex’ Masebinu.

In the two international bouts on the night, Oto ‘JoeBoy’ Joseph defeated his Ghanaian counterpart Emmanuel Mensah by technical decision to retain his African Lightweight title while Rilwan ‘Real One’ Oladosu defeated hard punching Benjamin Lamptey from Ghana to retain his West African Boxing Union Lightweight title.
