- The new Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Adams, is set to travel to Jerusalem this year
- His chief of staff disclosed that the OPC leader has a Christian background
- He said that Gani Adams has a Christian temple in his room and prays regularly
The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land and leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, has a Christian background and is a prayer warrior, his chief of staff, Segun Akanni, has disclosed.
Akanni disclosed this in an interview with The Punch in a reaction to the controversies raised by the congratulatory letter written to Adams by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Passtor Adeboye had congratulated Adams on his installation by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, in Oyo town on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

Some people had criticised Adeboye’s action, arguing that the man of God should not have had any dealing with the traditionalist.
Akanni, however, said such critics did not know that Adams had a Christian background.
He said: “If you see where Gani Adams prays to God with his Holy Bible, you will fear and ask, ‘Is this Gani Adams?’ He has his Christian temple in his room. If you’re in doubt, I will take the photograph and send it to you.
“People doubt if Baba Adeboye can write such congratulatory letter to Aare Adams because of his background. The congratulatory letter came from the RCCG Headquarters. Can we forge such a letter? No, we can’t.
“The letter is from Baba Adeboye. I swear in the name of the Almighty God. Pastor Sam Adeyemi (of Daystar Christian Centre) and many other pastors also sent letters to congratulate Adams.
He boasted that the new Aare Ona Kakanfo is a prayer warrior and serves God with serious dedication.
He said: “You see, majority of our critics cannot serve God the way Gani Adams serves God. Otunba Gani Adams! He is a prayer warrior; the man prays a lot. He can pray for two hours non-stop. Gani Adams will lock himself inside his room and start praying.
“What some people don’t know is that he has a Christian background. People see him based on his past but it was due to the circumstances then when the OPC was under serious attacks by the police, armed robbers and other criminal elements when we started the struggle.”

He added that Gani Adams had sponsored over 50 pilgrims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, stating that after his pilgrimage to Mecca in 2017, Adams would travel to Jerusalem, Israel this year.
NAIJ.com previously reported that after his installation, Gani Adams visited the Ijo Orunmila Adulawo shrine in Ebute Meta, Lagos, as part of activities to praise God for the successful event.
In his sermon, chief priest Awodiran Agboola welcomed Adams and his entourage to Ijo Orunmila Adulawo while also describing the Aare Ona Kakanfo as a symbol of peace.
He urged him to continually preach peace and unity across the country.
