- The Edo state House of Assembly has recalled its former deputy speaker, Elizabeth Ativie, five months after her suspension
- Ativie had been removed as deputy speaker in 2017 and suspended for failing to return the official vehicles attached to her office
- The suspension was lifted after she finally returned the vehicles, and following the recommendation of the committee set up to investigate the matter
Mrs Elizabeth Ativie, representative of the Uhunmwonde constituency in the Edo state House of Assembly was recalled back to the House on Monday, January 29, The Guardian reports.
The development comes five months after Ativie, who is the only female member of the House, was removed as deputy speaker and suspended for refusing to return her official vehicles.

NAIJ.com gathers that the leadership of the House disclosed that Ativie had finally returned the vehicles.
Hon Victor Edoror, the chairman of the committee set up to investigate the matter stated at the resumption of plenary for the 2018 session, that Ativie had cooperated with the committee as it carried out its duties, and returned the vehicles.
Consequently, he stated that the committee was recommending that her suspension be lifted so she could return to her legislative duties.
In response, the speaker of the House, Kabiru Adjoto, commended the committee and proceeded to pronounce that the suspension had been lifted.
He stated: “The committee has told us that she appeared before it and has done all that is required of her, including returning the vehicles in her possession.
“So we are happy that our sister has played her part and consequently with the agreement of the entire House her suspension has been lifted and we expect her to resume her duties as the lawmaker representing Uhunmwonde.”

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that Elizabeth Ativie vowed not to return her official cars after she was removed as deputy speaker of the Edo state House of Assembly.
Ativie and Dr Justin Okonoboh, were impeached by 19 out of the 24 members of the House. Also, majority leader, Foly Ogedengbe, was also removed for “incompetence”.
According to Ativie, the vehicles were given to her as gifts by a former governor, Adams Oshiomhole.
