Aside from uninterrupted academic calendar, there are several reasons why parents and guardians would prefer to send their wards to private schools in Ibadan and around University of Ibadan (UI) in particular.
Private schools around UI enrich academic opportunities by providing exceptional and challenging educational experiences for their students.
For instance, a comprehensive study on class size made by educational researchers Bruce Biddler and David Berliner in 2002 show that the smaller the class size, the better the average student performs on academic achievement test.
Therefore, there is less fear in the wards and more freedom to speak their minds to their teachers. The schools are built around open communication and makes it priority to involve the parents in their community. These arouse the interest of the children to learn.
The University of Ibadan community in which these private schools are located is a strong sense of pride which often create strong and favorable networking opportunities and the desire for further learning in the higher institutions. The presence of UI is a strong morale for the private schools that operate around it.
These schools are operating under government licenses. It is required by government set rules, their students also spend six years in secondary school.
This means three years in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and three years in Senior Secondary Schools (SSS). By the end of JSS, a student has to take the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
After the BECE, successful students enter the SSS. Any SSS curriculum provides three core subjects with two or three optional. Below are some of them:
