The Nigerian Defense Academy
Due to a crucial need for trained officers in the Armed Forces of Nigeria, The Nigerian Defense Academy was founded on the 5th of February 1964. The institution was first called the Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC) but after the country gained independence in 1960, it was renamed to the Nigerian Military Training College.

The key mission of the Academy is to deliver necessary knowledge, skills and important values to every officer through military, academic and personal development processes. For this reason, the NDA is a Nigerian institution, where all the selected young people will not only be trained to be courageous and brave but also academically strong.
The programmes and courses
The Nigerian Defense academy has more than 1500 cadets and five different departments. They are Department of Biological Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Department of Mathematics, Department of Computer Science and the Department of Physics. You can obtain both Bachelor and Master degrees in the academy. Let’s look at the courses offered and the requirements.
Undergraduate courses
Faculty of Arts and Social Science
To enroll in the courses at the faculty of Arts and Social Science, you need to have 5 credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics. These are the courses offered by the faculty:

- BSc Political Science and Defense Studies

Faculty of engineering
If you want to study at the faculty of Engineering, you need to have 5 credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics. These are the courses the faculty offers:
- BEngr Civil Engineering
- BEngr Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- BEngr Mechanical Engineering
Faculty of science
To be accepted in the faculty of science, you need to have 5 credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics. You should also expect to study these courses;

Postgraduate courses and requirements
The Nigerian Defense Academy also offers postgraduate courses. The requirements for these programmes are harsher than the ones for Bachelor degree:
Master degree (MA, M.Eng, and M.Sc)
The ideal candidate interested in the NDA Master’s Degree programme should be a recent graduate of the Nigerian Defense Academy or any other well-known university. When applying for the course, the applicant must have a minimum of Second Class Honors (Lower Division) in the related field of study.
Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD)
In order to meet the requirements of the course in NDA, the candidate for PhD Degree must have obtained a minimum of Second Class Honors (Lower Division) in his/her Bachelor Degree and Master’s Degree in the related field of study. The candidate must also have have the average score of not less than 60% or 3.50% at the Master degree level.
