The personal assistant to the president on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has said the federal government's proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was in the group’s interest.

Onochie made the statement on Friday, September 29, via her twitter handle, @Laurestar.
The presidential aide said it was needful to proscribe the group as the government does not want members of IPOB to hurt themselves in the process of agitating for the Biafra Republic.

Meanwhile, the United States has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to explore the option of dialogue when resolving internal crisis in Nigeria.
The advice was given on Thursday, September 28, in Washington DC when the US institute of peace (USIP) convened a conference titled - Peace in Nigeria: How to build it, and America’s role.

The gathering which had in attendance US officials, diplomats and Nigerian leaders, explored possible options beyond military operations in resolving Nigeria’s internal crisis, the Guardian reports.
The speakers at the symposium advised the Nigerian government to strengthen the responsiveness of state institutions, address grievances and perceptions before they escalate.
In a another related report, top military sources from the army headquarters have spoken about the disappearance of Nnamdi Kanu saying the leader of IPOB is not in their custody.
Kanu’s lawyers led by Ifeanyi Ejiofor had filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, September 27 asking for an order for Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai to produce him in court.
The Punch however reports that a top military source said Kanu’s whereabouts was not known to the army and that it would have been revealed if he was in their custody.
