Anambra PDP primary: Oduah, Ubah insists Obaze must be dropped as party's candidate

- Four other aspirants have rejected the Obaze's emergence

NAIJ.com can authoritatively report that four of the aspirants in the PDP governorship election in Anambra state have requested that the name of Mr Oseloka Obaze, be substituted as the party's candidate for any of them.

The four aspirants include: the senator representing Anambra North in the National Assembly, Stella Oduah; former minister of state for transportation, John Emeka; chairman Capital Oil; Ifeanyi Ubah as well asAlex Obiogbolu.

In a letter dated September 10, addressed to Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and seen by NAIJ.com, the aggrieved aspirants stressed that Obaze will not receive their support if the party fails to address their grievances.

Part of the letter read: “The national leadership of our party should consider and nominate another aspirant as governorship candidate amongst the under-listed who were cleared and are capable of flying the party's flag: Prince John Emeka, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, Senator Stella Oduah, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah.

“The nomination of Mr. Oseloka Obaze who was not qualified to contest the election shall not receive our support.”

The letter titled: 'Re: Invitation to Meeting Scheduled for September 11' was signed by the four aspirants.

The chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, was also copied in the letter.

NAIJ.com gathered that Governor Ugwuanyi had earlier called the other aspirants for a peace meeting on Monday, September 11 at Government House Enugu to resolve the crisis.

The aspirants insisted that the August 28 primary that produced Obaze was marred with irregularities, adding that his emergence was unconstitutional.

“It is worthy to state that Oseloka Obaze was not qualified ab initio to contest for the governorship primary election of the PDP. He was not qualified to have been nominated to contest the gubernatorial primary as he has not met with provisions of article 50 (4) and (5) of the party constitution and Part 3 section 2 (j) of the electoral guideline which stipulated that:

'An aspirant to the gubernatorial primary election shall not be qualilled to be nominated or to contest the primary election, if he/she: (I) is not a member at the POP for at least two years preceding the election except if waived by the appropriate Executive of the Party'.

“The purported waiver granted to Obaze after the nomination was never ratified in accordance with the party constitution.”

Meanwhile, APC youths in Anambra state have cautioned the declared winner of the party governorship primaries, Honorable Tony Nwoye, against justifying impunity.

In a press statement sent to NAIJ.com on Thursday, September 14, the youths frowned at the conduct of Nwoye since the party's appeal panel committee was set up.

They accused Nwoye of importing the impunity he was known for in the PDP into the APC.

The Anambra governorship election is billed for Saturday, November 18.
