Premier League giants Arsenal showed significant interest to sign Napoli star Dries Mertens this summer before the Belgian penned a new deal with the Italian club.

The Gunners reportedly showed interest in the 30-year-old after his 34-goal season, according to calciomercato.

There is still hope for the North London club though as Napoli included a highly attractive buy-out clause to ensure he extended his stay in the club.
