- Shittu further bashed the PDP for being responsible for insecurity in the country, as he stated that the opposition party was not a viable contender for the upcoming elections
Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has declared that he would succeed Gov. Abiola Ajimobi as Oyo state governor in 2019, Vanguard reports.
Shittu, a governorship aspirant in the state, declared that he learnt about politics from the late sage Obafemi Awolowo, and was more experienced than his competitors, having also held other political positions.

NAIJ.com gathers that the minister disclosed that he wanted to take over from the current governor, in order to improve on his good works in the state.
He stated: “I was a member of the State House of Assembly in 1979 and two-time commissioner in the State. I have also contested the governorship seat in the state twice before I became a minister.
“These are experiences you cannot buy. Oyo is advanced and sophisticated to be handled by inexperienced administrators.”
Shittu mocked the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party was a non-starter for 2019 at both the state and federal levels.
He accused the opposition party for being responsible for the insecurity in the nation as a result of the party’s incompetence in handling the Boko Haram insurgency when it first started.
He stated: “Boko Haram would have overrun the country if not for Buhari’s emergence.
“The Buhari administration on assumption of office had evolved several efficient and effective strategies at reducing the threat drastically.’’
The minister further disclosed that the Buhari administration was collating the views of Nigerians on the issue of restructuring, and would present the results to the National Assembly, in order to chart a new course for the country.
