Women have become the driving force in scientific exploits and technological advancements in recent years, and in Ghana especially, careers in Science and IT have seen more and more girls sign up happy and ready to learn.
NAIJ.com comes across young Cassandra Dinko, a nine year-old that has shown an impressive interest in the science subject well beyond her educational level.
Now progressing to Primary Grade 4, Cassandra has learned to memorize, and recite all 118 elements of the periodic table, without looking at the board!
Cassandra has studied all the atomic numbers of the elements and can put together the symbols in their proper positions on the table, all under 15 minutes.

Philip Dinko, Cassandra’s father noticed his daughter’s interest in this first stage of Chemistry 101 and decided to feed that interest.

Speaking with NAIJ.com, Philip stated that he started a mini homeschooling project with Cassandra after her regular school hours, where he would answer her questions on the elements and their related forms.
According to Philip, Cassandra understands his answers regarding the elements, no matter how abstract they are.
The 9-year-old has also learned the Atomic Theory of Matter, a subject that is taught in Senior High chemistry class.
With the world of science expanding and needing more women, young Cassandra’s piqued interest is a welcome addition.

Her questions began with “What is this made up of?" and “Why is the universe this way?”, which prompted father, Philip, to engage her in very detailed explanations on science and matter.
“Each time I gave answers, she continued to ask more complex questions. My answers got more abstract but she understood and further asked up to the atomic and subatomic level questions. She understood my explanations of the atomic theory and has completed learning it now,” Philip adds.
Young Cassandra is naturally curious, according to father Philip and began asking these complex questions when she was eight years old.

Currently, she enjoys learning more about the universe we live in, and does so through the help of creative, science videos on YouTube such as the Smart Learning for All series.
Philip Dinko wants to use his daughter’s story to disprove the fact that education requires specific grades and that all learning should timed that way.
He believes in encouraging our young ones to learn what they can at an early age, to better compete with the global advancing world.
