- An investigation into the reinstatement of Danjuma Ibrahim, the police officer who reportedly spearheaded the Apo 6 killings, is set to be opened by the Senate
- The lawmaker who raised the motion, Sen Sonni Ogbuoji, expressed concern that while Ibrahim had been acquitted, the same court had indicted the 2 junior officers he had ordered to carry out the killings
- The president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, subsequently asked Ogbuoji to tender a formal motion which would be referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions
The Senate has vowed to open an investigation into the reinstatement of Danjuma Ibrahim, a deputy police commissioner, who was indicted by a judicial panel of inquiry which probed the 2005 killing of a young lady and 5 Igbo traders in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Guardian reports.
The upper legislative chamber arrived at the resolution following the motion raised by Senator Sonni Ogbuoji (PDP-Ebonyi South).

NAIJ.com gathers that Ogbuoji drew the attention of his colleagues to the reinstatement of Ibrahim, who was acquitted by Justice Ishaq Bello of the Abuja Federal High Court, in March this year.
Ogbuoji was concerned that Ibrahim had been acquitted by the same court which indicted the 2 subordinates he had reportedly ordered to carry out the killings.

He stated: “It was an incident that led to the death of six young people, five of them males and one a female at a police checkpoint.
“The then President Obasanjo set up a judicial panel of inquiry because the police report was unacceptable to him when they insisted that those young people were armed robbers.
“And in the judicial panel of inquiry, some police officers were found to have killed these young people.
“So, they were taken to court by the state. The commander of that particular police unit, one Danjuma Ibrahim, as we speak today, has been reinstated by the police.
“Also, one of them, Othman Abdulsalami, till today is still at large. But the court on the 12th of last month sentenced two of the policemen to death for murder.
“One is worried that the commander of the patrol unit that killed what is now known as Apo six has been reinstated by the police, whereas the police have found others who were under his command culpable.”
Ogbuoji was subsequently asked to bring a formal petition on the matter which would be referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, by Dr Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate.
