The emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, says unemployment and poverty are the cause of illegal migration by Nigerian youths.

NAN reports that Sanusi made the remark during a visit by the president and members of Pan African Institute for Global Affair and Strategy (PAIGAS), an NGO, on Thursday, November 23
NAIJ.com gathered that the emir said the quest to move abroad in search for a better life can be resolved through engagement of youths.

The emir called on the government to create an environment to bring about wealth creation and empowerment of youth population in Nigeria.
He commended the NGO for its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in sensitising corps members against illegal migration.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that France’s ambassador to the UN, Francois Delattre, urged the Security Council to impose sanctions on perpetrators of Libya’s slave trade.
He said: “France will propose to assist the sanctions committee in identifying responsible individuals and entities for trafficking through Libyan territory.
