Governor Samuel Ortom has denied report that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered all 36 state governors to clear salary arrears before the Christmas celebration.
The Nation reports that the Benue state governor spoke during an interactive session with members of the Correspondent chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Government House, Makurdi.

Ortom said President Buhari did not order governors to clear salary arrears before Christmas. Instead, he claimed the president only advised them to use 50 per cent of the Paris Club refund to pay salaries.
He said: “I don’t know where the stories about Mr. President s directing governors to clear salary arrears before Christmas is coming from. But I think the media got it wrong.”
NAIJ.com had reported that governors on the platform of the Nigeria Governors Forum denied report that President Buhari ordered them to clear salary arrears before Christmas.
The governors met with the president on Monday, November 27, at the Presidential Villa where he approved the payment of the Paris Club fund.
Vanguard reports that the governors in a statement signed by Abulrazque Barkindo, head, media and public Affairs, said: “No mention of all workers arrears, was ever made, by President Muhammadu Buhari.”
