Ibas says his organisation will not stay aloof while any group threatens the country's peace
- The warning by Ibas came days after the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin, issued a similar message to groups in Nigeria
A stern warning has been sent to the Niger Delta Avengers over its recent threat to commence destruction of public facilities in the oil-rich region of Nigeria.
Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), sent the warning as he spoke with journalists at the eastern naval command headquarters in Calabar, Cross River state, on Tuesday, November 14.

The Cable reports that Ibas warned that no group in the country has a right to threaten its peace and unity adding that the navy is prepared to confront any such threat,
“We are prepared for any group that threatens the unity and peace of our country.
“We are ready to stop all forms of illegal activities on our nation’s economic resources.
“We have in the last two years made a considerable impact of reducing the operations of pirates.
“No individual or group including the Niger Delta Avengers has the audacity to threaten the country and we will also make sure that Nigerians can use the maritime space unhindered,” he said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the attention of the Nigerian army was recently attracted to the new threat coming from the Niger Delta as an anti-militancy initiative in the region is set to restore peace and security in the area.
According to Sahara Reporters, the operational command has been directed to advise troops to be ready to move at any time.
The command was also directed to make provisions for troops as well as the upkeep of their families.
NAIJ.com also reported recently how the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin, vowed that groups associated with violent agitations in the country would be prosecuted by the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Olonisakin gave the warning on Saturday, November 11, during the induction of 20 sophisticated gunboats newly acquired by the Nigerian Navy at the Warri Naval Base, Warri, Delta state, The Tribune reports.
