According to a report by Daily Nation, the remaining children passed on at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital at dawn due to complications related to pneumonia. The children's hearts and blood vessels were affected.
Akinyi began delivering the babies while still at home and hadn't attended any pre-natal clinics throughout her pregnancy due to her poor background.
The grieving woman said:"I am still coming to terms with this.We still thank God in all this. We leave all this to him.".

John Malago, Matata's Hospital director said: "This woman started delivering at home, by the time she arrived at this hospital, she had two babies that had passed on. She managed to give birth to three other children, they are well though we have transferred them to Kisii for specialized treatment."
Apparently, Akinyi's quintuplets were the second case of five babies being birthed premature at a go after the Dionne Sisters were born in 1934 in Canada
The Dionne Sisters all grew into adulthood.
