Following reports that 97 Nigerian fishermen were killed by Cameroonian gendarmes in Bakassi peninsula, the Cameroon government has denied the allegation, The Cable reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that this was disclosed by a three-man delegation dispatched by Cameroonian president Paul Biya in Abuja on Thursday, August 3, at the end of a meeting with Geoffrey Onyeama, foreign affairs minister.

The Cameroonian minister of foreign affairs, Joseph Ngute, said the delegation was sent to discuss issues of mutual benefits to both countries, adding that there was no iota of truth in all the media reports.
The minister laos said that the team came to discuss the situation that afflicted north-western part of Cameroon and north-eastern part of Nigeria concerning the fight against Boko Haram.
Ngute said that the two countries had been working perfectly in trying to make sure that Boko Haram was completely alienated.
He also denied the report that Cameroon maltreated Nigerian refugees, saying that they had protested to UN human right commission on the issue.
Onyeama in his remarks said there was no distrust between the two countries. He said: “On the contrary both countries are extremely close, working together very closely and I think sending this delegation by the president himself shows the importance he attaches to that relationship."
According to an earlier report by NAIJ.com, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama on Wednesday, July 19, said there was no evidence of 97 Nigerians being killed by Cameroonian Gendarmes.

He said the 97 deaths represented the accumulation of all the Nigerians that had been killed in previous incidents in the Bakassi area since 2008.
