Hammed Olojo, a 31-year-old Uber driver, on Sunday, August 27, was restrained by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol of Third Mainland Bridge from jumping into the lagoon.
Olojo had driven himself to the bridge in a Toyota Corolla saloon car, written a short note, left it in the car and was about to jump, when he was stopped by the officers who had monitored him for a while.
Olojo, an ex-convict explained why he had attempted to kill himself to ACP Tunji Disu the RRS commander, saying that he was owing N10,000 in Court 3, Ikeja High Court and the owner of the vehicle N80,000.

He said things were difficult for him and although his wife tried to dissuade him, his mind was made up and was fed up of everything.

The letter read in part “I killed myself because of the challenges I have been facing in life. I tried my best and everything has come to nothing."

He also added in the letter that he was owing a creditor N10,000 in Court 3 of Ikeja High Court and N80,000 for the owner of the Uber car he was driving.
The owner of the car, Kalejaiye who was at RRS office in company of his wife noted that for two weeks, he had not remitted N40,000 per week lease to him yet and he Kalejaiye, has been paying for the service of the car.
He said he told him to hand over the car last Thursday, August 24, but at no time did he force him not to drive the car.
Confirming the development, Police PRO stated that the case had been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The anti-kidnapping squad of the Lagos state police command have successfully arrested two men who posed as passengers in order to kill an Uber driver and steal his vehicle.
One of those involved in the gruesome crime is still at large. The three men strangled the driver, Innevosa Emmanuel and stole his car.

According to NAIJ.com, the suspects mode of operation was to request Uber rides with the intention of killing the drivers and stealing their cars, to resell them to new buyers.
