The Federal Government has cleared the air on the recent controversy that trailed the combination of Christian Religion Studies (CRK) and Islamic Religion Knowledge (IRK) under Civic Education.
Speaking on Tuesday August 1 in Kebbi state at the Federal Government-Progressives Governors’ Forum, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said that the former president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration formulated a policy in 2012 which combined CRK, IRK and Social studies into one elective and implemented the policy in 2014.

NAIJ.com gathered that the Mallam Adamu said: “The Jonathan administration had formulated a policy in 2012, combining CRK, IRK and Social studies into one elective and implemented the policy in 2014. Immediately I came in as education minister, I was briefed about the policy.
“At the National Council on Education in September 2016, Council agreed that the policy should be jettisoned and we cancelled the policy.
“The Buhari’s administration was not responsible for formulating the policy; instead, we are the ones that cancelled.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that the Federal Government on Thursday July 20 bowed to pressure and directed the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) to separate the Christian Religious Knowledge and Islamic Religious Knowledge subjects in the basic education curriculum.
