- Alhaji Abdullahi Sugar, a political associate of Atiku Abubakar, has warned the north about plans by Olusegun Obasanjo, to replace Buhari with either Nasir El-Rufai or Rabiu Kwakwanso in 2019
- He asked the former president to allow the will of the people to prevail; even as he wondered why Obasanjo would pick El-Rufai or Kwakwanso, when there were other more qualified politicians
- Sugar further declared his support for Atiku, as he stated that despite the wishes of Obasanjo that his former VP would never become president, God gives power to whom he wishes
Ahead of the 2019 presidential elections, northerners have been warned by Alhaji Abdullahi Sugar, a political associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to be vigilant against the alleged moves of former president Olusegun Obasanjo to replace President Muhammadu Buhari with one of his boys.
According to Daily Trust, Sugar stated that Obasanjo was planning vigorously, to force Governor Nasir el-Rufai or Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso on the region.

He stated: “We, northerners, must be wary of these antics. It has happened before and we should not allow it to happen again.
“He, Obasanjo, should allow the people’s will to prevail.
“Why is he plotting for Kwankwaso and El-Rufai when more, better politicians are on ground? He should allow the people’s will to prevail and not his.
“Tell him that Nigerians are now more enlightened politically than in 2007.”
Declaring his support for Atiku Abubakar, Sugar stated further: “Obasanjo had on many occasions said Atiku will not in his lifetime become president.
“We are praying for him to live long so that he can witness the emergence of Atiku as president.
“Atiku is not looking for presidency from Obasanjo, but from Allah, who gives power to anybody he wishes without the endorsement of people like Obasanjo.”
