- NAFDAC workers have said the strike will continue despite the exit of the DG, Yetunde Oni
- The workers had previously said their major grouse was with the DG, now that she is gone, they have some more demands
- Following a directive by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mrs Oni was removed as acting DG
The Acting Director General of NAFDAC, Mrs Yetunde Oni has been removed due to the demands of workers in the agency.
The workers who had gone on strike clamored for the exit of Yetunde Oni and on Thursday, September 28, following a directive by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), she was retired.
The SGF approved Mrs. Oni’s ‘immediate retirement’ in a letter by R.P. Ugo, a Permanent Secretary in the office of the SGF.
Jimoh Abubakar, the director of public relations and special duties at NAFDAC, confirmed that Mrs Oni has been directed to proceed on retirement and hand over to the most senior director of the agency.

Consequently, Ademola Mogbojuri, who is the most senior director of the agency, has been appointed as the acting director general.
According to Premium Times, despite the change in leadership, the striking workers said they will not return to work until the last of their demands is attended to.
Idu Isua, the vice chairman of the workers’ union said that the workers will not return to work because Mrs Oni’s retirement was not enough to call off the strike.
“We are not calling it off. We still have one issue and that is the issue of allowances. So since we have somebody who can spearhead the issue now, we will start from there.
“We can start the negotiation from now since we have somebody who can lead us. So no problem about that but the strike continues,” he said.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that the Acting DG, Yetunde Oni, had been on acting capacity since February 2016 and had acted for over one year.

Mr Michael, the National Public Relations Officer(PRO), Medical and Health Union of Nigeria, NAFDAC said: “She clocks 60 years on Thursday and by virtue of public service rule she has to go but she doesn’t want to go.
“We, therefore, ask the Federal Government to give us a substantive DG or the most senior director in NAFDAC take over same way Oni took over as the most senior in 2016."
