President Buhari makes special vow, speaks on corruption and the fight to end it in Nigeria

- President Muhammadu Buhari re-emphasised one of his major promises to fight corruption in Nigeria

- Buhari, who was represented by Winifred Oyo-Ita, said he will not renege on the promise to eliminate corruption

- He said an end to the challenge plaguing the country would put Nigeria on the path of greatness

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that he is ready to fight corruption until it is completely exterminated from Nigeria’s body polity.

NAIJ.com learnt that Buhari said this on Monday at the 2017 annual National Management Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management in Abuja where he was represented by the Head of Civil Service (HoS) of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita.

The Punch reports that the president said his administration will not renege on its vow to eliminate all forms of corrupt practices in the country as this is the best way to put it on the path of greatness and prosperity.

“To set this country on the path of greatness and prosperity, complete elimination of all forms of corrupt practices must be in the front burner and our collective consciousness always.

“You will agree with me that a great nation is the reward of great leadership built on good governance with strict adherence to the ideals and principles of corporate governance.

“This is our motivation and value proposition. My administration will, therefore, continue to fight corruption and associated social vices at all levels until they are exterminated from our body polity,” Buhari said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the fight against corruption had taken a new direction as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, ordered heads of the divisions of courts to create special courts for corruption and financial crimes cases.

It was learnt that Onnoghen said this directive is to end the unnecessary delay associated with the prosecution of corruption cases.

The Sun reports that the CJN also ordered that all lists of pending corruption cases in the various courts be forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC).
