Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has said politics in Nigeria needs proper fixing for the good of national development.
Speaking in Abuja at a reception in his honour over his recent appointment as the Waziri (Prime Minister) Adamawa, Atiku said people will be remembered not by the number of people they pulled down but by the number of people they lifted up.
He praised Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, as he listed her among eight people from Adamawa state that have contributed to the development of Nigeria, Daily Trust reports.

Atiku stated: “I also implore us to fix our politics as well. We can have our political differences and political flights but let us know when to apply the brakes to ensure that what is getting to Adamawa, be it projects, provisions or positions are not lost because of our dirty quarrels and what some people call pull him down syndrome.
"I believe we will be remembered not by the number of people we pulled down but by the number of people we lifted up.”
According to him, Adamawa state has produced distinguished sons and daughters who have contributed and have continued to contribute to national development.

Listing those from Adamawa who have contributed to the development of Nigeria, he said: “For those of us who God has spared our lives up till now, how do we easily forgot the contributions of:
- Air Marshall Barde
- Late M D Suleiman, the Inspector General of Police
- Senator Mahmood Waziri
- Late Justice Buna
- Nuhu Ribadu
- Babachir David Lawal
- Emmanuel Musa Bello
- Aisha Buhari: “We even gave our President, Muhammad I Buhari his very smart and beautiful wife (Aisha), an accomplished professional in her own right,” he added.
Atiku was appointed as the Waziri in June following the death of the former Waziri, Alhaji Muhammad Abba in April.
His son, Aliyu, was also appointed as the new Turaki Adamawa to take over from his father.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that Atiku lambasted the people opposing the calls for the restructuring of Nigeria.
He said that anyone opposed to the current clamour for restructuring of the nation was lazy. According to him, he would continue to speak against the current faulty ‘unitary federalism’ structure even at the detriment of his political ambition.
