"My name is Joy Ikiere Pouwe. I was born on 7th July, 1979. I am a single mother, a graduate and private school teacher, the first child of my parents.
MY STORY: It was one of my best moments in life riding with my bestie as we were making plans for our big day. So many things had been put in place, wedding date had been announced to be 31st of July 2016. It was to be one of the most remarkable dates in my life. Event changed On the 17th of June 2016, as we were out for pre-wedding photo shoot and on our way to the laboratory to conduct test for church approval for our marriage, I remembered I was in a blue wagon, sitting at the front seat admiring from the window the beauty of nature as trees moved as fast as the car, and my fiancé sitting just behind me. All of a sudden I saw in front of me a swaying Jeep running carelessly and directly in front of the wagon I was in. I have never seen a car lost control. Before I could put things together in my head, my vehicle had a head on collision with the staggering Jeep so I was trapped in a squeezed wagon with blood coming out of my nostrils. As at the time some good Samaritans came over to our rescue I couldn’t feel my right leg. We were rushed to the Hospital where it was confirmed by the Doctor that I had a serious fracture in my right pelvic. My Fiancé had stitches on his face. I was on skeletal traction for 6weeks at which I was discharged.
The world came crashing on me when I opened my eyes to see that I was all alone in this with my 12 years old daughter. My fiancé had left with the thought that I may not be able to walk again without aid or even give birth thus leaving me to my fate. Till date I haven’t set eyes on him or heard a word from him
That is in the least of my problem now as my utmost desire it to be able to walk unaided and to take care of my little daughter as a broken courtship is better than a broken marriage.
Sometimes this year, March to be precise, I started to feel severe pains in my pelvic and my back. It was so excruciating that I could not walk. I went to see my doctor and he sent me for x-ray and found out more complications. I was referred to Cedar Crest hospital, Abuja. When I got there, the doctors said it was a very complicated case, that they will have to do acetabular reconstruction, total hip replacement and repair of damaged nerve. They'll need to invite other doctors from UK to join them in the operation and it's going to be a 10hours operation that will cost about 5million naira. (16,000 US Dollars). The Insurance at my place of work doesn’t cover me as it is not a work related accident. I am penniless as I write now
The operation according to Doctors has to be done as soon as possible to avoid more and further complications.
Please I am soliciting for financial support to be able to undergo the surgery process to help me get on my feet again to take care of my daughter."
