Over 200 ex-militants from the Niger Delta region have protested at the National Assembly over the alleged failure of the government to pay their allowances.

The former militants called on the federal lawmakers to prevail on the special adviser to the president on Niger Delta and coordinator of the programme, retired Brig Gen Paul Boroh, to pay their allowances, PM news reports.
The protesters who carried placards and sang various solidarity songs demanded for the removal of Boroh on the basis that he was a stumbling block towards the payment of their allowances.
”We are not here to disturb the peace but to call on the government to pay our allowances. We are suffering.
The amnesty office owes us amnesty allowances running to millions of Naira. We want our money,” spokesman of the protesters said.

In related news, President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged by some repented Niger Delta militant leaders to consider giving pipeline surveillance contracts to youths in the area.
The ex-miliant leaders, under the auspices of Leadership Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI), made the appeal during their meeting with the Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd.)
