President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, November 16, said he had resolved to pay back the goodwill Nigerians extended towards him during his recent health crisis by protecting their interests with all the energy at his disposal.
Punch reports the he restated his administration’s commitment to improving security, fighting corruption and restructuring the economy.
NAIJ.com gathered that Buhari spoke at the public presentation of a book, “Making Steady, Sustainable Progress for Nigeria’s Peace and Prosperity,” at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said within the limited resources available to him, his administration would continue to give priority to security by addressing herdsmen/farmers’ clashes, kidnapping and armed robberies.
He also said his government was working quietly to secure the release of the remaining girls who were kidnapped in their school in Chibok, Borno state, in 2014.
The president said: “I cannot thank Nigerians enough for your prayers and goodwill during my health vacation.

“I can only repay you by resolving to work by putting every ounce of my energy to protect your interest.
“We have gone through difficult times due to worldwide economic recession. We are coming out of recession and government efforts are targeted at easing economic hardships, with more jobs, social security platforms for vulnerable families and unemployed and infrastructural progress.
“I would, at the same, like to assure all Nigerians of my commitment to improve security, fight corruption and restructure the economy.”
The president also said that the ongoing fight against corruption has started yielding fruitful results as Nigeria is now a respected nation in the world.
Buhari stated that the nation’s creditworthiness was sound, noting that the country’s first Euro – Bond offer was over-subscribed four times.
He said that Nigeria had gone through difficult times due to worldwide economic recession.
The president noted that Nigeria was coming out of recession and government’s efforts were aimed at easing economic hardships with more jobs, social security platform for vulnerable families and unemployed as well as infrastructural projects.
“I would, at the same time like to assure all Nigerians of my commitment to improve security, fight corruption and re-structuring the economy.”
He said that his administration would continue to address the recurring issue of herdsmen and farmers clashes, kidnapping and armed robberies.
He said: “Within the confines of our budgetary resources we are giving top priority to security. During the year it was my great pleasure to secure the release of 103 Chibok School Girls.
“We are working day and night in cooperation with our international partners to free remaining girls and all other hostages; men, women and children.
“We are all aware now, if you steal public funds and are caught you will face the law,” he said.
Buhari lauded the efforts of the presidential media team for organising the event.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who also spoke at the event, identified humility and prudent management of public resources as the greatest assets of President Buhari.
Osinbajo presented the mid-term scorecard on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in a book to the President after the unveiling on stage during the book presentation at the old Banquet hall, Presidential Villa.

The national leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, who unveiled the book paid tribute to the achievements of Buhari.

He lauded the efforts of the president in fighting corruption and other social vices in the society.
He, however, called for an upward review of public servants’ salaries to reduce temptation and check corrupt tendencies in the system.
