Disputes and scandals
Senator Dino Melaye’s biography contains several scandals and political disputes; his life can hardly be described as calm.
For example, he was accused of keeping an account at an American bank, even though this is against the laws of Nigeria and officials do not have the right to use foreign accounts. He didn’t deny this information.
It was also discovered that a transaction of 1 thousand dollars was carried out via his Bank of America card in New York. The fund was intended for a dermatological and medical company engaged in skin treatment. Melaye was reluctant to talk about his banking affairs, even though there was more than enough evidence against him - the data on his card numbers, bank statements, locations of the sender, transaction dates, and recipient details were all discovered.
Melaye also called out former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, for marrying a foreigner; according to him, it was wrong of the governor to "import a wife from abroad" instead of marrying a woman from Nigeria. He even threatened to beat Senator Tinubu.
In early summer of 2017, attempts were made to excommunicate Dino from the National Assembly.
Scandals relating to certificates
In 2017, a number of curious events related to the Senator’s certificates occurred; these events concerned the senator's claims to have obtained a bachelor's degree in Geography from ABU, as well as a certificate of education from the prestigious Harvard University located in Boston. He defended his claims by saying he received a degree from Harvard, but it had not been confirmed.
Melaye faced serious criminal prosecution that threatened to spoil his political reputation and career. He denied the accusations in every possible way; however, Senator Ali Ndume insists that special attention should be paid to his issues since there is a high probability that they did not arise from nowhere.
Melaye insists that the information about his education in ABU is absolutely true. According to his words, he also has 7 degrees from other educational institutions from different countries of the world including the Kennedy Harvard School and London Economic and Political School.
Some people also decided to investigate the matter and found out that in reality, Melaye did not receive full-fledged diplomas from any of them. Representatives of Harvard said that he only passed a week-long program to upgrade his qualifications in 2016. There was also information that there are no records of the scientific degrees he claims to possess.
The senator's reputation was cleared when the vice-chancellor of ABU presented evidence that Dino had actually graduated the educational institution under a different name.
Personal life
The Senator is currently unmarried; he was formerly married to Tokunbo Melaye for 10 years; she however filed for a divorce on grounds of domestic violence in their home. She claimed that her husband had beaten her up severally and even threatened her by putting a pistol to her head.
Soon after his divorce, he got involved with another woman called Alero Falope and they lived together for six months before she left him.
Dino has 3 children with Tokunbo, and another child from an unknown woman, who was born in summer of 2016.
Authorship
In spring of 2016, he published a book titled "Antidotes For Corruption: The Nigerian Story"; this book stole the attention of so many people, thanks to the author's bright personality. It was also released at a time when there was so much heat concerning the affairs of Patience Jonathan and Bukola Saraki; both of them were accused of corruption.
The book was criticized for weak syntax because the title had the preposition "for" where “to” should have been used. Some experts described the book as a copy of newspaper articles.
Despite his rather controversial reputation, Melaye has received many honorable awards. Several youth and political organizations have called him the best man of the year, defender, motivator, impeccable leader and an excellent national legislator. So you can condemn or love him, but you can't help but pay attention to this man. We hope that the biography of senator Dino Melaye was interesting to you.
