Former President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to Nigerians to collectively defend and stand firm for democracy.
Jonathan made the call on Thursday, November 16, in Onitsha at the grand finale campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Anambra, Oseloka Obaze ahead of Saturday election.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former president said democracy was not about conducting elections only but seeing that elections are free and fair.

He said: ''We must collectively defend democracy in the country because no matter what you are, until you are able to elect your leader peacefully, the international community will not take you as developed society.
Where elections are manipulated, there is no election.''
The former president said democracy was not about conducting elections only but seeing that elections are free and fair.

In their separate remarks, the Governor of Rivers Yesom Wike and his Ondo state counterpart, Ayodele Fayose, urged the people to vote PDP candidate to end hardship and negative change brought to the country by APC led federal administration.
The PDP candidate Obaze said he was humbled by the overwhelming support of the party and people of the state and called on them to come out en mass to vote for him on Saturday.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Goodluck Jonathan, the former president replied the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over a comment.
Jonathan in his response to Tinubu’s claimed that, ''So much money grew feet and ran away faster than Usain Bolt ever could and that his administration won gold medal in corruption, however, said that facts have rather deserted the APC leader faster than Usain Bolt.
