The headlines of the mainstream Nigerian newspapers for Thursday, December 7, are focused on President Muhammadu Buhari's two-day visit to Kano state.

Vanguard reports that President Buhari, moved by the outpouring of affection from the people of Kano state at the beginning of a two-day official visit, vowed to overwhelm any opposition to his undeclared 2019 re-election prospects.

The Punch reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has commenced a probe into the 24,325 government properties that were sold to government officials under the monetisation policy of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Also, the anti-graft agency has arrested a retired Appeal Court judge, Justice Mohammed Tsamiya, for allegedly demanding a N200 million bribe in exchange for a favourable judgment in a National Assembly election case that was pending before the Imo state judicial division of the Court of Appeal.

This Day reports that the federal government on Wednesday in Abuja, denied insinuations that the current fuel scarcity plaguing the country is a ploy to increase the pump price of petrol.

The government also ordered the minister of state for petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to ensure that the scarcity does not exceed this weekend.

The Guardian reports that the federal government has blamed the ongoing fuel scarcity on increased demand by nations in temperate regions.

Addressing State House correspondents after a Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday, minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, said: “This is winter period. There is always more demand for refined products from petroleum ‎during winter in the colder countries. This is what we are experiencing now.”

Governors Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Akinwumi Ambode (Lagos), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) and Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti) met in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, to ratify their common stance on all the issues billed for amendment.
