An HND graduate of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Mohammed Ismail, has been allegedly shot dead by a drunken police officer.

Ismail, who was a father one was said to have been shot on Sunday, December 3, at a rally of one of the chairmanship aspirants in the Ajaokuta local government area, Abdulrahaman Dansabe, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The incident reportedly occurred at the local government secondary school, Ajaokuta, around 2pm when the chairmanship aspirant was campaigning in the area.
According to an eye eyewitness, a yet-to-be identified policeman suddenly opened fire during the rally and a bullet hit Ismail who was at the occasion.
The development reportedly caused confusion in the area as those at the venue of the rally scampered for safety.
The eyewitness said: “Some people said the policeman acted under the influence of alcohol.
“Our efforts to save the man proved abortive as he died shortly after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.”
NAIJ.com gathered that the deceased was later buried around 7.30pm on Sunday, December 3.
The state police spokesperson, ASP William Aya, said investigation into the incident had commenced.
Meanwhile, the inspector general of police Idris Kpotun Ibrahim, on Monday, December 4, ordered the immediate re-organization of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the country.
The order was as a result of the #EndSARS campaign launched on Twitter by some Nigerians to expose some of the atrocities committed by the SARS.
