Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor has released 16 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to elected members of the national assembly from Rivers state foster unity in the state.
The vehicles are bought for senators representing the state, while 13 are for members of the House of Representatives from the state.

Members of the House of Representatives have taken possession of the vehicles.
The members were led by Mrs Betty Apiafi, leader Rivers Caucus of the House of Representatives and Bari Mpigi, deputy leader, Rivers state House of Representatives caucus.

While presenting the vehicles at the Government House Port Harcourt on Monday, December 4, Governor Wike said that the vehicles were acquired to aid the federal lawmakers in the discharge of their official functions.
"Defend the interest of the state wherever you are. This is from the government of Rivers state which you are part of.
"This is to aid you to carry out your official functions in Abuja," he said.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, said the anti-corruption campaign of the federal government cannot be effective because of the inability of national institutions to act independently.
Governor Wike made the comment during a courtesy visit by officials of Chatham House, The Royal Institute of International Affairs, United Kingdom, to Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, August 30.
