- Nigeria police have been accused of having the capability to listen to phone conversation of citizens
- BudgIT Nigeria made this allegation following the arrest of Moses Motoni, the group's Project Tracking Officer in Kaduna
- The group also accused the senator representing Niger South Senatorial District of Niger state of being involved in the arrest of Motoni
Following the arrest of Moses Motoni, Project Tracking Officer of BudgIT, in Kaduna state by some unidentified SARS personnel who disguised as delivery men from DHL Nigeria, BudgIT Nigeria has warned Nigerians that the police have the capability to monitor their phone conversations.
A friend of Motoni who spoke on his arrest said: “Moses received an SMS from DHL Nigeria to pick up a parcel at Markafi. He went to pick it but when he got there, he was shocked to be apprehended by some SARS officers who forced him into a car and drove off. That was when he knew that the SARS officers were posing as the staff of DHL.”
And in their reaction, BudgIT in series of tweets accused Mohammed Sani, the senator representing Niger South Senatorial District of Niger state of being involved in the arrest of Motoni.

"On Moses Motoni, it is also proven that politicians such as Senator Mohammed Sani, can use the @PoliceNG to advance their interests. Without reaching out to him or his organization, Moses was arrested without charge, humiliated & taken to ABUJA," the group tweeted.
Going further, the group warned Nigerians that police in the country has the capability to minitor citizens phone conversations.
"Warning: On Moses Motoni, we like to inform Nigerians that we believe @PoliceNG have the capabilities to listen to phone conversations. His phone wasn’t directly targeted. A number sent SMS to his friends & relatives that they have a parcel to pick at DHL. #AskQuestions #EndSARS," the tweet read.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported the Nigeria Police Force denied reports that some officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested Moses Motoni, a project tracking officer of a civic transparency group, Budgit. The force in a tweet on Wednesday, December 6, stated that the Budgit staff was alive, well and was being granted bail.
