23 years ago football witnessed some of the most tragic stories ever in the history of the FIFA World Cup history.
Colombia's Andres Escobar was 27, a respected and talented defender, on the night of June 22 1994 playing at the sold out Rose Bowl arena against the USA, Escobar had the misfortune of turning a US shot into his own net.
The image of his reaction, a look of hunting despair is sealed in the mind of anyone who sees it, Colombia a pre-tournament favorite lost that game by two goals to one, his World Cup dream became a horror story.

Days later Escobar was dead, murdered in Medellin leaving behind his girl friend and a heart broken family, the Nation moaned.
More than 120 thousand people attended Escobar's funeral, for Colombia his killing symbolized his trauma and terror that was defined by Narco trafficking, lawlessness and the drug Kingpin Parblo Esobar.

Colombian footballer never remained the same after the death of Andres Escobar and it took two decades to regain the heights of the early 1990s.
