- A Nigerian man confronts his daughter’s teacher for failing his child
- The teacher had reportedly failed the girl after she answered a question stating that her father does the cooking at home
There has been a stereotype belief in some parts of the world especially in Africa, that women are to stay at home while the men go out to earn money for the family.
In Nigeria, this belief has also been part of the narrative taught to students in schools. A child is taught that a woman’s role is to take care of the home and prepare meals while the father works to provide for the family.
Due to this narrative, a little girl was marked wrong after she stated that her father does the cooking at home. The father identified as Fatoki Taiye Timmy shared a post narrating the incident on Twitter. He stated that he had to confront the teacher to explain the he truly does the cooking at home not his wife.
He said: "My princess was giving an assignment. One of the questions was about who cooks at home. She wrote Daddy, because I do cook for the family too. She was marked wrong, then she asked me why. I explained to her, followed her to school, explained to d teacher, n changed d narratives."

Timmy shared the story on Twitter after another user Ifeanyi Nsofor stated that something needs to be done about the stereotype narrative that is being taught to students in schools.
He said: "Doing English comprehension homework with my 5-year old daughter. Father goes to work. Daughter goes to school. Mum stays at home to clean the house. Deeply disappointed that Nigerian textbooks still push this narrative of women only good for doing home chores. This MUST change."
Nigerian Twitter users shared their opinions on the topic stating that the schools are not just to blame because the belief is a cultural deficit that has been placed in the minds of Nigerians as they grow.
