President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, August 25, said the success Nigeria has recorded in agriculture sector across the states is due to the fact that Nigerians can no longer afford to buy foreign foods.
NAIJ.com gathered that the president made the statement while addressing the 36 state governors at the Presidential Villa.

President Buhari lauded the performance of the state governors, saying: “I am very pleased with the states; you are all doing your best and you are lucky your best is proving to be good enough on agriculture and solid minerals. You are succeeding in agriculture because, I think, people cannot afford foreign food.”
Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state in his response thanked the president for his support to the states, saying: “Without the assistance, it would have been difficult for us to cope. You have treated all governors equally, irrespective of party affiliation.”
Governor Yahaya Bello said the meeting gave the governors the opportunity to welcome President Buhari.
“We are here to appreciate him. We thank Almighty God that he is back safely. We also thank his able lieutenant, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who held the country firm in his absence," he said.
NAIJ.com previously reported that the meeting is coming just after the president met with leaders of the Peoples Democratic party and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Ahmed Makarfi led the delegation from the opposition party to the meeting which was also confirmed by the president's aide.
