NAIJ.com gathered that a teenage couple who got engaged in the presence of their fellow students, were suspended by the school authorities.
According to reports, 18-year-old Mduduzi Tlou, surprised his fellow students at the Tholulwazi secondary school in Tsakane Ekurhuleni, South Africa, when he proposed to his 16-year-old girlfriend.
Tlou who saved up to buy the R2000 (about N52,000) ring with which he engaged his girlfriend, was disappointed when he was summoned by the school authorities later, and the ring seized from them.
After appearing before a panel set up for a disciplinary hearing, the couple were suspended for their actions.

Tlou who is a grade 11 student, said they had been dating for eight months and even though he wasn't planning to marry her till the next two years when he turns 20 and she 18, he had gone ahead to propose without knowing that it was against the school policy.
He said:
“I love her because when I met her, I was an alcoholic and she had changed all of that. I paid R2000 for the ring. I bought it from Sterns. I had saved money for it. I was surprised on September 18 just after lunch when they called us into the principal’s office, confiscated the ring and asked us to bring our parents the next day.”
He also said he was worried about his studies as he had already missed four tests as a result of the suspension. He said he couldn't wait to finish school so that he can find a job and be able to marry his girlfriend.

Tlou's girlfriend also expressed her worries on missing school, saying:
“When they took my ring at school, I wanted to cry. He asked me to marry him and make him the happiest man on earth. We are not going to get married now. We will get married after we both finish school.”
The couple's parents say they have nothing against the marriage proposal, however they were disturbed because they were suspended.
Tlou's grandfather, Jacob Xaba, said:
“Why is this relationship being turned into a crime? He must marry her. I will even give him my savings for lobola.”
The couple's parents are in support of their engagement and are rather disturbed over the school's decision to suspend them

Nomsa, the girl's mother said: “I am happy with the step these children are taking. Mduduzi is a good boy. I can’t think of a better son-in-law.”
A spokesman for the Guateng education board, Steve Mabona, said the teenage couple had acted indecently by kissing and touching in front of the other students, stating that “surely such behaviour will not be tolerated in our schooling environment. A school is an institution of learning . The disciplinary process by the SGB. will pave a way forward.” He also said they would eventually be allowed to write the tests they missed.
