Tragedy was averted on Saturday, October 28, as a plane carrying NBA team the Oklahoma City Thunder from Minneapolis to Chicago apparently struck a bird when it was landing.
According to a report on Fox news, the team’s Delta charter plane was damaged during the flight from Minneapolis, as several players posting pictures on social media of the aircraft’s dented nose after they landed safely.
Speaking about the incident, a spokesperson told for the team said that all players and staff were safe, while a Delta Airlines spokesperson said the plane likely hit a bird while descending.
He said: “Delta flight 8935, operating from Minneapolis to Chicago-Midway as a charter flight for the Oklahoma City Thunder, likely encountered a bird while on descent into Chicago.
"The aircraft, a Boeing 757-200, landed safely without incident; customers have since deplaned and maintenance teams are evaluating. Safety is Delta’s top priority.”
Oklahoma City Thunder star Carmelo Anthony also posted a photo of the plane but on Instagram. "What possibly could we have hit in the SKY at this time of night?" Anthony wanted to know
The scare however did not get to affect the Oklahoma City players as Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points and Paul George had 20 to lead the team to a 101-69 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night, October 28.
Russell Westbrook added 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists for his third triple-double of the season.
