The 2018 appropriation bill has passed the second reading at the Nigerian Senate.
The lawmakers have referred the bill to the committee on appropriations for further legislative action.

The Senate during consideration of the 2018 appropriation act inserted in the document a clause which makes it mandatory for the executive to revert to the National Assembly any excess arriving from the benchmark set in the 2018 appropriation act.
The lawmakers on Tuesday, December 5, then adjourned further deliberations to December 19, 2017, to allow the Senate standing committees to hold budget defence sessions for federal ministries, departments and agencies.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment of Anthony Okechukwu Ojukwu as executive secretary of National Human Rights Commission.
The letter was read by Senate president Bukola Saraki during plenary on Tuesday, December 5.
The National Human Rights Commission was established by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Act, 1995, as amended by the NHRC Act, 2010, in line with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly which enjoins all member States to establish national human rights institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights.
