The Israeli military has said it is deploying hundreds more troops to the occupied West Bank after US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital on December 5, Yahoo reports.
The military in a statement said: "Upon the conclusion of the general staff's situation assessment, it was decided that a number of battalions will reinforce in the area of (the West Bank), as well as combat intelligence and territorial defence."
"In addition, more standby forces were defined, as part of the (military's) readiness to possible developments."

NAIJ.com gathered that large numbers of Israeli troops were preparing at the Qalandia checkpoint between Jerusalem and northern West Bank on Thursday, December 7.
However, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist movement which runs the Gaza Strip has called for an uprising over the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, while protest were planned for the West Bank.
A strike was also embarked upon by Palestinians on Thursday, December 7, to protest the recognition, which saw schools and shops closed.
NAIJ.com previously reported that President Donald Trump announced that Jerusalem would now be recognized as the capital of Israel by the United States of America.

The United States president stated that the development would advance the Middle East peace process and that it was ‘long overdue’.
He further disclosed that if approved by both the Israelis and the Palestinians, the US would support a two-state solution.
